Candidiasis Appearance: Removable creamy-white plaque (pseudomembranous) Underlying mucosa is normal or erythematous Location: Tongue, palate, buccal mucosa 5D’s: Drugs, Dentures, Diabetes, Debilitation, Dryness DD: Cheek Chewing, Thermal burn, Chemical burn Tx: Systemic antifungals (fluconazole or ketoconazole) Topical antifungals (clotrimazole, nystatin suspension)

  2. Angular Cheilitis Appearance: fissured, erythematous Location: commissure Tx: Antifungal (Nystatin Crema) Antifungal + corticosteriod (vytone, mycolog II) If Antifungals don’t work try “Triple Antibiotic Ointment” (OTC) In children, usually caused by staphylococcus not candidiasis

  3. Histoplasmosis Most common systemic fungal disease in US Most cases asymptomatic
