11March , 2011 (Friday) 14:46p.m. Earthquake – Richter scale 8.9 10-meter high Tsunami Fukushima's first nuclear power plant explosion Radiation leakage
BOOM!! The amount of radiation is a thousand times more than that of normal!!!
I have carried out a survey among 150 Hong Kong citizens(60 students,30 teachers and 60 other citizens). Here is the result. Lee Yuk Wa (A Hong Kong citizen)
Q:How does a nuclear power plant generate electricity? Wong Kamyui@ Fukushima nuclear power plant
A nuclear power plant = a steam power plant that is fueled by a radioactive element, like uranium. Mr. Lui (Worker of the power plant)

Q:How much of the world's electricity comes from nuclear power? Wong Kamyui@ Fukushima nuclear power plant
http://www.ippnw-students.org/chernobyl/energy.html There are still a lot of nuclear power plants in the world. Mr. Lui (Worker of the power plant)
Should we continue to develop nuclear power?
The development of nuclear power is controversial. Lee Yuk Wa (A Hong Kong citizen)
how the Japanese government thinks about Nuclear power…
1.Won’t produce greenhouse gases E.g. sulphur dioxide , carbon dioxide , nitrogen oxides.etc ->Reduce air pollution
2.Cheaper nuclear fuels cost Among all the costs of nuclear generation, the cost of fuels occupy with a lower proportion.
3.Small in size but large amounts of energy Million times larger than that from the chemical energy ->Save money
4.Reduce our reliance on fossil fuels Fossil fuels is ranked the top 3 of global energy consumption (87.04% of the world's energy consumption)
What we have done after 311: Set up a new department to regulate the nuclear power generation. Limit the exports of some products in the areas affected. Install a new emergency generator. Set the emergency evacuation orders.
how the Japanese Citizens think about Nuclear power…
1. The usednuclear fuel is radioactive . Itmust be sealed up and buried for thousands of years to allow the radioactivity to die away.
2. For all that time it must be kept safe from accidents. This is difficult.
3. Comes with an enormous price because it takes strenuous researches, comprehensive safety facilities and manpower. $ $
4. Nuclear power generation will produce a lot of heat . This needs plenty of water to cool it down . The sea water temperature will increase and thus the growth of algae, resulting in large amounts of carbon dioxide and the marine life will die.
5. Requires a lot of flat land to build nuclear power plants.
What if there is aNuclear leakage?!
Health Radioactive dust ->released into the atmosphere ->causes cancer on human body
Food Contamination -Japanese didn’t have food to eat -Export income dropped
Residents should be alienated from the nuclear disaster area. ->They don’t have a place to live さようなら! (GOODBYE)
Q:What do you suggest the government to do? Wong Kamyui@ Japan
Stop using nuclear power!!!Use other renewable powers instead!!! (It is the opinion from most of the Japanese forum.) Mr. Chung(a Japanese)
-better development plans -better designs of nuclear power plants
Conclusion From the project, we found that: • People concern more about the development of nuclear power • The development of nuclear power is controversial • Still a lot of nuclear power plants • Nuclear is not safe enough
We think: • Tidal, wind or solar powers can be used to guarantee people’s safety. • Less electricity should be consumed, fuel used for generating electricity can be reduced. • Safety are more important.
