What is NOT Changing? • Ranger • Quest • Trust • Shooting Sports All are still current awards moving forward. The requirements for each are being rewritten, but the awards are NOT going away.
What else is NOT changing? • Uniforms Venturers will continue to have green shirts/grey pants. Crews will still have the option of developing their own uniform. For area, region, and national meetings, the green/grey combination is the uniform de rigeur
Anything else not changing? • Venturing program itself Venturing will still be co-ed, still be high adventure based.
So…what IS changing? • One Oath/One Law Venturers will begin using the Boy Scout Oath and Law in May 2014. • Scout Sign/Salute Venturers will begin using the three finger sign and salute in May 2014
New Awards • Venturing Award • Discovery Award • Pathfinder Award • Summit Award
Venturing Award • The “joining award” for new Venturers • New training module: “personal safety awareness” • Crews need to develop an “induction” ceremony • Not required for Venturers who join before December 31, 2014
Discovery Award • Participation in 2 adventure experiences • First Aid training • 24 service hours • Leadership experiences • Work with the adviser in one of the following areas: Faith, Self, or Others • Create and achieve a personal growth goal
Pathfinder Award • Two more high adventure experiences • Venturing Project Management training • Leadership position within crew or on a training staff • Service project • 36 hours service (in addition to project and Discovery hours) • Ethical decision making • 2 personal growth goals
Summit Award • Three additional adventure experiences (7 total) • BSA Mentoring Training • Menor another scout • Serve in a crew position • Participate in leadership training • Service project (comparable to Eagle project) • Personal Code of Conduct
What about 18-20 year olds? • Still able to earn awards • Must register as adults • Must complete Youth Protection Training • Must camp/bathe/etc as adults
How Soon Do We Do This? • New awards can be started NOW • Old awards must be completed by December 31, 2014 • New books available Fall 2014 • NEW Advancement Guide coming soon • NEW ILSC course coming • NEW training courses (personal safety, mentoring) coming soon • CURRENT Venturers may count adventure activities and First Aid trainings completed prior to May 2014 (as long as the course is current). All other requirements must be started new.
