Lesson: -Students will make Iroquois Indian headdresses to help them remember that Ohio was named by the Iroquois, meaning “great river”. -Students will use provided materials to make their unique headdresses and will write ‘Iroquois’ on the front of their headdress to help them distinguish themselves from “other Indian tribes”.

Lesson -Use maps to locate Ohio and its surrounding states -Once surrounding states are located, students will use graphic organizer to write at least one sentence using a directional word to describe that state’s location. -Students will share with their table and color the provided map.

Lesson -Students will dress up as one of the ten discussed inventors -Will stand in front of the class and share what they invented and when -Children will take turns until each child has had a turn to be an Ohio inventor.

Lesson -Students will listen to ten statements about Ohio firsts and decide if they think it is true or false prior to beginning the Ohio lesson. -Record score in data folder -After completion of the Ohio unit, do the same true/false activity. Record and compare results.
