  2. Plan of activities for the ACTION 2 a. Analysis of local situations and definition of common databases to monitor environmental performances of port areas Each partner will produce detailed documentation of the activities hosted in its port area, the environmental impacts produced, the management system adopted, problems solved or unsolved, the possible solutions, the best practices implemented, the fields of co-operation with the City Authority, the relationship problems with the city and the region, etc. The local documentation will be produced according to a common format drawn up in technical workshops, containing the definition of a set of environmental and sustainability indicators for the port areas. The data contained in each local documentation will be assembled and managed in a common data base, the starting point for access to the world of EMS. 07 IONAS Ancona, 02 July 2004.

  3. Plan of activities for the ACTION 2 b. EMS pre-implementation training and design activities Working with training workshops (also on-line) each port area will get familiar with terminology used in EMS and will gain an opportunity to understand EMS in their city context . A workbook on EMS implementation in the Adriatic + Ionian region will be compiled starting from the workshops activities. Partners will leave the project with an EMS “personalized” workplan and instructions on how to implement it. The local Plans for Port EMS will contain analisys and commitments of each partners towards a full-effective implementation of EMS in their own port areas by the following years. 08 IONAS Ancona, 02 July 2004.

Final collection of local data, according to the common format, and first implementation of the IONAS data-base E. TW 3 (….., spring 05) F. Local TWs (from spring 05 to spring 06) - The local TWs will be hosted by a port area for each country involved (6) G. But, what really is EMS? • Goals of EMS implementation in port areas • A general improvement of environmental, social and economic situation, by a better performance of any kind of activity operating in the port area, obtained through: • - Reduced environmental impacts - Less operating costs and competitive advantages for attending companies of any sector (tourism, transports, commerce, industry, etc.) - Better relationship between companies and authorities. 10 IONAS Ancona, 02 July 2004.
