Egg Drop Challenge

The aim is to work as a team to complete 5 small tasks. These tasks will earn you credits, which can be used to buy materials to protect your egg when it is dropped from a height.

Task 1 This task will test your knowledge of a compass. In your group you need to draw the points on a compass. 4 points correct = 5 credits 8 points correct = 10 credits

Task 2 This task will test your fitness levels. You need to choose someone from your group to do this task based on this information.

They are going to be doing star jumps! You have 60 seconds to do as many star jumps as you can. For every 20 star jumps you do, your team will get 5 credits.

Task 3 This task will test your balance. You need to choose someone from your group to do this task based on this information.

They are going to balance a tray on their head! The 1st person to drop itwill get 2 credits. The 2nd person will get 5 credits. The 3rd person will get 10 credits. The last person standing will get 15 credits.

Task 4 This task will test your creative skills. In your lodges you will have 1 sheet of A4 paper and 2 minutes to make the best paper airplane you can.

You now need to choose someone to throw your airplane. The plane that goes the furthest will get 15 credits. The next furthest will get 10 credits. The next will get 5 credits. The plane that goes the shortest distance will get 2 credits.

Task 5 This task will test your knowledge of the Beaver promise. At the end of the room are the words to the Beaver promise turned over and jumbled up. You have a dice at your end of the room.

You are to take it turns in your team to roll the dice. When you roll an even number you can run down to the other end, turn one piece over and put it in the correct order.

The 1st team to complete will get 15 credits. The 2nd team will get 10 credits. The 3rd team will get 5 credits. The last team will get 2 credits.

Now you have earned as many points as you can, the shop will be open to buy materials to protect your egg. The picture is a clue of what it should look like!

You all have a price list of the materials available to buy from the shop. In the top right corner is how many credits your team has earned to spend in the shop.

Discuss in your teams what your parachute will look like and what materials you need to make it. Please let a leader check that you have enough credits to buy the materials you want before going through to the shop.

You now have 10 minutes to create something to protect your egg. It will then be dropped from a height to see which team worked well together to protect their egg!
