What is a Portfolio? • Dr. Helen Barrett, a retired teacher educator who is internationally known for her research on electronic portfolios in education, describes a portfolio as “a purposeful collection of artifacts (learning/work production with reflection) demonstrating efforts, progress, goal development and achievement over time.” One of the first “Portfolios”

What is a Digital Portfolio? • An electronic portfolio, also known as an e-portfolio or digital portfolio, is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually the web. (Includes inputted text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks) • E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the user's abilities and platforms for self-expression.

  4. Blog, Wiki? • A blog is a sort of online journal. It is updated daily or weekly or whenever the author wants to.  A blog is owned by an individual. • A wiki is a platform that anyone can edit or update in real time. A wiki is collectively updated and contributed to by many people around the world.

  5. Examples of Wiki’s • WikiSpaces for Educators (free and ad-free) • Google Sites (free and ad-free) • PBWorks • Weebly • Flavors.me • Glogster can be used to add multimedia content to your wiki. (It can serve as your website, or you can embed Glogs into other websites) • MediaWiki • Free and open-source, but must be hosted on a server you rent or your school provides • Examples: • WikiPedia • Storychasers Wiki • Teaching Children Philosophy
