President’s Message • Minutes • Another Successful year • Core Executive Members are reaching the end of the “career” with the KGHA as their daughters finish playing minor hockey • Need participation at the Executive level by parents with younger children • Vacant Executive positions need to be filled to continue the success of the KGHA • Thanked those Executive members that are “retiring” • OWHA believes we offer the broadest range of programs and are one of the largest associations in the OWHA

4. Competitive Report • Continue to offer a wide variety of teams at all levels for a complete development model • Added team at Senior A & AA over past two years • Two provincial medals in 2011 • Rangers continue to be primary feeder for Senators • All coaches finalized except Atom C and Bantam BB, interviews scheduled over next week • Tryouts start in mid August at AA

5. Competitive Report • Minutes • We have been running Novice Competitive for the past 2 years. Partially due to a request from the ODWHA to help start up a Novice Competitive divison • Recognized that Atom Competitive teams have had some difficulties the past 2 seasons. Expects that those teams will benefit from it in Peewee and Bantam. • This season there will be 2 Midget AA teams, as opposed to a AA and A team • Questions • No questions asked

6. Treasurer’s Report • Considerable work done to revise the accounting process • Financial Statements for 2008, 2009 and 2010 revisited • Draft Financial Statements Available • HST introduction • KGHA Reserves • Increased Association wide fundraising

7. Treasurer’s Report • Minutes • The Fee increases for the 2010/2011 season required to offset both the introduction of HST and yearly increases in ice rentals appear to have been sufficient to ensure that the Association covered its costs. • The Association is in a debt situation due to an accounting error made several years ago (2007-08). An un-recorded ice bill resulted in financial statements that incorrectly reflected a large surplus which, on the advice of the auditors, the executive utilized to purchase new jerseys and other equipment as well as freeze registration fee levels despite increased ice costs. While the Association gained jerseys and equipment, it was left with a large unforeseen bill to be paid that was not covered by player fees and has resulted in the depletion of reserves. • Moving forward, the Association needs to begin to work to build a sufficient reserve to cover both start up costs and equipment/jersey replacement costs. This could be done by Association wide fundraising (such as a raffle) that could be included and paid at registration. This needs to be addressed now and should begin as soon as possible to avoid future issues. • Current debt level is estimated at $30,000

8. Finance and Administration Report • Need increased participation from members on the Executive • Current positionswith no incumbents: • Treasurer • Secretary • Tournament Coordinator • Development and Discipline

9. House League Report 2010 – 2011 Season Recap • 23 Teams – 4 Novice, 4 Atom, 4 Peewee, 5 Bantam, 5 Midget and 1 Intermediate team. Plus, 1 Junior FUNdamental program • All (except JR FUN) played in MOGHL with a variety of success. • Most teams were middle of the pack

10. House League Report Sort Outs • New Format for Team Sort Outs and Selection was introduced with limited success • Format and allowance of team selections were reviewed – and consistent suggestion is to increase to 4 choices for team staff. • Initial resistance was replaced with acceptance and realization that new process was fair and not as limiting as anticipated.

House League Report Midget Program • Introduced this past season was round robin games between KGHA Midget HL teams. • This was a phenomenal success with higher than ever attendance/participation and good natured rivalry (coaches and players!) within the level. • Plan is to continue this next season.

12. House League Report Tournaments • Approximately 68 Tournaments were attended by KGHA teams. • KGHA took Gold in at least 8, and Silver in 19. • In general Tournament results were better than league results. • 4 Teams attended MOGHL Championship Day • 2 Gold medals and 2 Silver

13. House League Report Skills and Development • KGHA Skills development was well received • General review is it was well attended, worth the money and meshed well with team progress • Also served as learning tool for coaches. • Plan to continue • Continuation of Goalie Clinics helped younger levels promote and develop goalies as well as continuing education of returning goalies. • Plan to continue.

14. House League Report • Questions • Q1:Does the KGHA have a target team size for House League teams?A1: Yes, 15 + 1 goalie. However, consideration is needed for ice and goalie availability • Q2: Is there an effort by the KGHA to develop young goalies?A2: Yes. For the past 5 years there have been free weekly skills sessions offered. We also offer free equipment rental to young players looking to try the position.

OSWHC Report • Minutes • There were 3 teams this season (Bantam, Midget & Intermediate) • Overall a good season on the ice • Bantams finished 2nd at Provincials • Midgets finished 4th at Provincials • Intermediates finished top 8 in PWHL regular season • The Intermediate team was one of the youngest in the PWHL • Only a small number of players graduated this season from the OSWHC (8 in total between the 3 teams) • Off-ice challenges due to the loss of Daron Richardson • Great support received from KGHA, ODWHA, OWHA and the hockey community in general

16. OSWHC Report • Minutes (continued) • There will be 3 teams again this season • Bantam – 14 skaters, 1 goalie. Still looking for a second goalie • Midget – Tryouts scheduled for August • Intermediates – 18 players on the team • projected to graduate between 11 and 14 players after the season is finished • Imports • At both Intermediate and Bantam, only 2 players made each team that were not KGHA players last season - 1 just recently moved to Ottawa area • Does not expect any non-KGHA Midget players to make the team

17. OSWHC Report • Questions • Q1: Do you see a lot of non-KGHA players at tryouts?A1: There are always people inquiring, but not that many show up at tryouts. Steve is very upfront and honest with possible imports. If they are not high-impact players, their chances are slim.

19. Registrar’s Report • Numbers staying relatively constant at approximately 715-720 members over last 3 years • 40 late registrations to date – tracking to similar levels as last year

Registrar’s Report • Minutes • New withdrawal fee schedule introduced this season in response to high number of withdrawals early in the season and to streamline the fee calculation • Last season there were 12 players at Midget House that withdrew after September 4 • The KGHA trialed the option to either pay by credit card or cheque with a discount. More analysis needed to determine if this is something we will continue to allow • Credit card fees are built in to registration fees and account for roughly $25 per registration • Questions • No questions asked

21. Development & Discipline • Minutes • Volunteer clinics did not run last season due to difficulties coordinating dates agreeable to the OWHA and KGHA • Goalie Clinics • Plan to continue weekly goalie clinics • Will put out an RFP to find a lead instructor • High school aged members should be encouraged to help with goalie clinics. Helps them become better goalies through instructing and can gain them volunteer hours

22. Risk & Safety • Minutes • Overall, a good season. Not many injuries reported • Concerns were brought up in regards to injuries not being reported and/or players trying to get back to on the ice before medically cleared to do so • The OWHA will begin tracking concussions this season • Need to reemphasize the no cell phone/camera use in change rooms

23. Risk & Safety • Questions • Q1: What is the KGHA’s current position on mouth guards?A1: While the KGHA would prefer all of its members wear a mouth guard, until the OWHA mandates it, it will continue to be a parental decision. This is mainly due to the fact that it would be near impossible to enforce - we would need the help of the referee association

29. New Business • Association Wide Fundraising • Teams are good at raising funds for their teams, but very few find ways to fundraise for the association • The KGHA will be investigating new fundraising opportunities • Community Involvement • Jody expressed the desire to get back to the days when teams were more involved in the community – and the association was made aware of it • Association’s Official Charity of Choice • The KGHA will be officially naming DIFD as their charity of choice • All jerseys will have a DIFD patch on them • A coaches game will be organized as a fundraising event - looking for a volunteer to coordinate • 2013 Women’s World Championships • OWHA and the Ottawa Senators have acknowledged the hard work and time put in by the KGHA to help them secure the wining bid • Jody praised the work of Julie Bell and Terry Nichols who spearheading our efforts • Julie Bell will be our main liaison with the 2013 Women’s Worlds Committee

30. General Questions • Q1: What effect, if any, does the KGHA feel the announcement of a new girls hockey association, (Goulbourn Girls), will have on the KGHAA1: At present, we do not see any effect. Registration is tracking the same as the past 3 seasons.To our knowledge, the association will only be catering to Junior FUNdamentals and Novice, if they receive any ice from the city (or find private ice).The KGHA has no visibility into where the Novice team would play. There have been no requests, that we are aware of, to MOGHL to have them play there • Q2: Has the KGHA considered incorporating to relieve the HST burden on registration fees?A2: Yes. We are exploring this opportunity, but without a Treasurer to take on the necessary paperwork, we cannot move forward.
