Soft launched in October 1998 by the ASEAN S&T Ministers; • Envisaged as an e-hub to form the back bone S&T business and e-learning infrastructure in support of the ASEAN Information Infrastructure (AII) initiative; • Url: www.astnet.org.
As an e-hub, ASTNET will have intra-ASEAN connectivity to: • S&T and human resources database; • COST subidiary bodies (e.g. Sub-Committees) • Business communities; • S&T centers of excellence; • Dialogue institutions; • International S&T research agencies and organisations;
As an international networks for ASEAN S&T development, ASTNET was envisaged to also serve as a commercial entity generating revenue for COST involving private sector (business and industry); • ASTNET will have a commercial portion.
ASTNET Commercial portion (planned): • Technology transaction (requests and offers) • Technology commercialisation
Current status of ASTNET • Due to limited resources and constraints, ASTNET is currently functioning as an information hub only; • Developed based on an open source platform (but could be further developed using a commercial platforms in the future); • Managed and administered by the ASEAN Secretariat; • Hosted in a server located at SingTel in Singapore.
Current contents • Public domain (general info regarding ASEAN S&T activities) including COST's publications • Restricted information (accessible to authorised users only): e.g. Project database, reports of Official Meetings; project proposal submission etc. • Updating by the administrators and authorised users (focal points of ASEAN COST and Sub-Committees) • Links with related S&T agencies in ASEAN and Dialogue Partners
Contents-Links with project's portal sitel • ASEAN-ROK Project on Technology Transfer Information Network (ITTIN) aiming to faciliate technology transactions (technology offers, requests and experts availability); • ITTIN is managed and hosted by the Korean Institute of S&T Information (KISTI).
