CoGen • 16 Cylinder reciprocating natural gas fired engine and generator located in the Central Power Plant. • CoGen supplies 85% of Wesleyan’s annual electric usage. • CoGen supplies 25% of the total campus thermal usage. • The water that cools the engine is used for hot water and heating in High Rise. • The exhaust gas from the engine produces 3,500 pounds/hour steam that goes to heat the campus. • CoGen generates electricity at 80% efficiency, utilities generate and distribute electricity at 30% efficiency.
