Warm up drawing session • Time: 15 min. • Try loose, flowing gestural drawings. • Explore form and movement in different gestures. • Your elbow and shoulder should be incorporated into developing the lines drawn. Warm-up large and small action lines • Sketch in the main line of action, this is a single sweeping line that follows the curve of the spine • Starting with the head, draw shapes to represent the head, torso and pelvis, following your line of action. Donelli refers to this step as “stringing shapes on a stick figure”. Start with the head so you can use it as the measure for the other shapes.  (oval or circle shapes) • Look at the angle of the shoulders and hips and add the smaller lines of action for these areas • Add smaller action lines for the arms • Ideally all of the above should be completed in under 2 minutes, with minimal lines • The idea of the shapes is to roughly mimic that actual body mass • Once you move through the drawing process towards your finished product, shapes are refined to mimic the model more closely • It’s important that the shapes you draw are roughly the correct size in relation to each other • http://lifedrawingposes.com/figure-drawing-lessons/lesson-1-figure-drawing-class/

  6. Line and mass gesture drawing • Time: 10min. (2min. X 5poses) • Try to represent energy, form, and mass of the figure Honoré Daumier

  7. Blocking Draw the space of the figureblock out proportions and body parts Use hatch marks or shading to define form Measure and compare proportions and angles.

  8. 20 min. drawing session • Time: 20 min. • Frame the figure on your paper • Add some quick shading, details, and define a more clear form Edgar Degas, Woman at her toilet

  10. A longer session drawing • Time: 45 min. • You can choose portions (but make sure you loosely sketch in the other body parts) • Frame it, and create detailed shading according to a single light source. Michelangelo Peter Paul Rubens
