AQIP Planning CouncilandQuality Council One College-Two Unique Campuses
What The Shared Leadership model is………………….. ………………and what it isn’t.
It IS - • a new model of Leadership in the college that allows for a more diverse voice in strategic planning, quality, and decision making, at a point closest to the issue in question, if appropriate.
It is not- • a catch basin for complaints, or issues that are already someone’s job to handle. (contractual issues or financial issues)
It IS- • a method of leadership that promotes better communication among all college constituents while encouraging a 2 way flow of information.
It is not- • a group of people who make all the college’s decisions.
It IS- • composed of two councils that will collectively work together to support AQIP and quality in making adaptive decisions. (with some technical decisions being made if determined to be necessary).
It is not- • A committee or group that has been hand picked to make all the decisions.
It IS- • two councils that are populated by positional representation, inclusive of every department, school, and/or area of the college.
It IS- • a SHARED leadership model that promotes trust, collaboration, communication, empowerment, and team work to support our mission vision and core values, and help guide the college towards excellence in “helping students learn”.
How does it differ from the old way? • Our opportunities to improve from the previous committee structure was in implementation of our team recommendations that were already approved.
We now have with the new leadership model……………… • The right people at the right table – representation of HR and Finance. • Accountability within the councils to improve attendance (application forms). • Elimination of committee overlap (members and target issues) by flattening the committee structure. • Clarification of council responsibilities- avoiding duplication and resource waste.
AND…………………….. • A means to account for and track progress of all committees. (committee request forms) • 18 black belt Quality Trainers and 3 Master Trainers. • A dedicated position to facilitate the entire AQIP umbrella. • Having an online BLOG, online voting, online council and committee nomination forms, that allow for better communication, inclusiveness, opportunities to participate, web sites (including posting of both Council’s minutes online).
What’s Next? • Orientation of new council members. • Appointment of chair and chair-elect. • Appointment of sub committees. • Filling of open positions. • Items A- M on page 11 of SOP- (Shelby). • To be ready by Jan 09.
Bottom Line………………… • Learning Is The Sum Of All That We Are.
Questions to this point?? • It will be a long journey with many changes along the way as we try and improve this model with feedback. (in the spirit of CQI) • The Guiding Coalition has addressed many areas that now spell success. The rest is up to us. • ARE YOU READY?
