  1. Global Content Targeting Design Patterns and UX ILTA SharePoint Symposium – 2011 Will Gaus

  2. Context

  3. Who was involved? • Development • Implementation of visual design

  4. What is GCT? • Allow users to share any “linkable” SharePoint object with other users in a manageable, easy to use manner. • These shared items would include sites, pages, list views or single document or list item. • Choose a list of roles or groups they wish to share the item with. • View and manage the items that have been shared with them. • Secure content not shareable.

  5. Soft Release • Trying to avoid information overload. • Entirely new concept within the firm. • Available for everyone to use within the firm today. • Full training materials available. • Targeted communications and partnership starting with specific high impact groups, stakeholders & power users. • Positive feedback and functionality requests.

  6. Creating the UX

  7. Visual & Interaction Design Goals • Create an engaging interface that will reward users who explore. • The interface should reward users interaction in subtle ways as not to distract but offer visual cues and acknowledgement. • Emulate similar external experiences. • Meet brand requirements. • Keep it professional

  8. Or more simply put • Easy to like • Easy to understand • Easy to use

  9. Leveraging learned behaviors • Design Patterns • Patterns are templates that are used to solve a defined website design problem (Barker). • Yahoo! Design Pattern Library • Competitors and industry trends • Look for similar experiences internally and externally

  21. GCT

  22. ‘Share This’ on every page for every item

  23. Target an audience

  24. On a mouse over of an item a drop shadow will appear.

  25. Upon mouse over of the ‘# of Shares’ box the outline of the boxes will switch to VIP Green.

  26. Upon mouse over of both the View & Clear buttons the box will fill with VIP Green.

  27. Upon clicking on a stacked box, which indicates multiple shares, the box will fill with VIP Green, the text will bold and go white. A comment cloud will appear below the item exposing all the comments. The user must ‘x’ out of the box in order for it to close.
