Sustainability • LA City Council introduced “Greening LAX” motion on October 10, 2006 • Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) adopted LEED Building Standards on January 22, 2007 • BOAC adopted LAWA’s Sustainability Vision and Principles Policy on August 6, 2007 • Sustainable Airport Planning, Design and Construction Guidelines were completed in January 2008 and are being implemented • Guidelines are being revised and will be reissued by April 1, 2009

5. What is LAWA doing now? Implementing a Sustainability Performance Implementation Management System (SPIMS), which is a plan for: • Continual improvement:Achieved through engagement of employees and stakeholders in achieving LAWA’s sustainability policy. • Alignment:Provided through implementation of a sustainability performance management system or integration into strategy management systems like the Balanced Scorecard. • Communication:Facilitated by use of the Global Reporting Initiative Reporting Guidelines and other industry-standard reporting guidelines.

10. Air Quality Programs • LAX Air Quality Apportionment Study • Most comprehensive air monitoring, modeling, and data analysis program to be undertaken by LAWA for one of its facilities or by any airport authority nationwide. • Coordinating a Technical Working Group (TWG) with representatives of Federal, State, and regional air quality control agencies to ensure that the study follows reliable methods to produce useful results. • The entire study is planned to be conducted in three phases. • Final documentation for Phase I and Phase II are currently under review by the TWG. Next steps can be determined following this review. • Air Quality Regulatory Monitoring and Compliance Program • Ensures that LAWA is in compliance with Federal, State, and regional air quality regulations

Air Quality Programs (Cont.) • Alternative Fuel/Emission Reduction Measures • Over 72% of LAWA’s vehicle fleet) is comprised of alternative-fuel vehicles • Only airport in the world with an on-site hydrogen generation station • Ground Service Equipment Conversion to zero emission by 2015, if possible (A draft policy is under review) • Alternative Fuels/Emissions Reduction Measures apply to trucks, vans, and shuttles • Rideshare Program • 27% of LAWA’s employees participate in this program saving over 1,000 vehicle trips to LAWA airports every day. • Saves over 7 million vehicle miles, over 500k gallons of gasoline, and 7.9 billion pounds of air pollutants • Received numerous national and local awards

12. Energy Conservation and Green Power • Retrofitting existing buildings with energy efficient lighting fixtures during remodeling projects • Ongoing program to upgrade all building air-handling units • Agreement with DWP to purchase 25% Green Power

13. Source Reduction and Recycling Programs • During 2007, LAWA diverted more than 22,095 tons of recyclable materials from landfills • LAWA recycled and reused more than 65% of trash it generated in 2007 • Green materials (grass clippings and tree branches) are recycled into compost • LAWA provides recycling services to tenants at no charge and assists tenants with setting up their own recycling programs

Water Conservation and Management Programs • Buildings and terminals at LAX feature low-flow devices on toilets and sinks • Water used in on-airport car wash facilities is recycled • 35% of all landscaped areas at LAX are irrigated by reclaimed water • 40.2 million gallons (123 acre-feet) of water is conserved each year through the use of reclaimed water • LAWA working with DWP to determine feasibility of bringing reclaimed water into the Central Terminal Area for use in the Central Utilities Plant cooling tower

15. Wildlife and Habitat Conservation Programs • LAX Sand Dunes Restoration • This preserve is home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals, including the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly and two lizards classified as Species of Concern • El Segundo Blue Butterfly • Less than 500 El Segundo Blue Butterflies remained in 1976 • LAWA expanded butterfly’s habitat and population is now in tens of thousands • Riverside Fairy Shrimp (RFS) Habitat Restoration • LAWA salvaged approx. 1,800 cubic feet of RFS cyst-bearing soil • Stored in secured, monitored, and climate-controlled facility approved by Carlsbad Fish and Wildlife Office. • Mitigation for the RFS cysts will occur at the Madrona Marsh location. • Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy • MOU with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy for replacement of 21 acres of sage/grassland habitat units • On November 20, 2008, LAWA staff inspected the “3 Sisters Reserve Habitat” and approved the site selection. Field work will begin in 2009 and will be coordinated with the annual rain.

16. Construction Measures • All LAX Master Plan construction projects follow stringent environmental mitigation measures, including: • Fugitive Dust Source Controls • On-Road Mobile Source Controls • Non-Road Mobile Source Controls • Stationary Point Source Controls • Mobile and Stationary Source Controls • To illustrate magnitude, the implementation of the above mitigation measures has reduced air toxic contaminants: • 4.5 tons of PM emissions • 4848.2 tons of CO emissions • 4.1 tons of ROG emissions • 48.1 tons of NOx emissions • .052 tons of SO2 emissions

17. Social Responsibility • LAWA works with local schools, job training programs, Workforce Development Centers, and the contracting communities to develop programs that address current and projected demands for qualified employees and contractors. On-going programs include: • Aviation Curriculum • Aviation Academy • Gateways Internship Program • AIRCademics “Passport to the Arts Program” • “Wings to Fly” Mentoring Program • Job Outreach Center • Business and Job Resources Center • First Source Hiring
