  2. DELHI STATEBASIC STATISTICS AT A GLANCEA. AREA • Total Geographical Area : 1,47,487 ha. : (1,483 Sq. Kms) • No. of Villages : 191 • No. of Farming Families : 35,000 • No. of Small & Marginal Farmers : 21,949 • Gross Cropped Area : 38,657 ha. • Yamuna River Bed Area : 5,000 ha. 1

  3. PRODUCTION (2009-10) (Estimated) • Food Grains : 1.61 Lakh M.T. • Vegetables : 6.00 Lakh M.T. • Floriculture : 10,000 Hectare • Fruits : 0.38 Lakh M.T. • Medicinal & Aromatic Plants : 170 Hectare 2

  6. Contd.1 : Kharif 2010 Prospects • Adequate Public Awareness Programmes • Arrangements of all inputs • Intensification of soil testing and soil conservation programmes • Expansion of Area under Hybrid Rice 5

Seeds(Availability, Treatment, Testing) • Availability:Delhi has limited area under agri- horticultural activity, therefore, all required seeds are available. • Treatment: Campaign for treatment of all seeds before sowing is being carried-out for better germination and plant population • Testing : i) Delhi has one State Seed Testing Laboratory and ensuring sowing of tested seeds. ii) Promoting use of Certified seeds for better seed replacement rate and good harvest 6

  8. 3: National Food Security Mission • N.C.T. of Delhi is not covered under National Food Security Mission Scheme. 4: Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) • The Govt. of N.C.T.of Delhi is not implementing RKVY scheme. • Released Additional Central Assistance of Rs. 4.72 Crore has been refunded and balance of Rs. 4.62 Crore is being refunded. 7

  9. 5. Micro Irrigation Promotion of Drip & Sprinkler Irrigation System for all crops. 8

  10. 6. FERTILIZER • Availability i) Shortage of DAP is expected ii) Fertiliser company i.e. NFL and IFFCO may ensure supply of fertilizers as per F.M.S. Requirement iii) KRIBHCO as an additional fertiliser supplier be included • Testing i) Delhi do not have fertiliser testing laboratory therefore, the services of Central Quality Control Laboratory is being utilized. • INM i) Promoting of use organic manure and Bio- fertilisers to maintain soil health. ii) Promoting of use of micro nutrients specially deficient micro nutrients for better soil health. iii) Promoting of use complex fertilisers instead of single grade fertilizer. 9

NATIONAL HORTICULTURE MISSION IMPACT ASSESSMENT • Delhi being metropolitan city, expansion of area under floriculture is being increased. • Protective cultivation is also being increased. • Organic Farming is being promoted. • Other activity like Vermi compost production and Bee keeping have increased. Linkage to Market 1. APMC Act has not been amended to allow private market. • Efforts are being made for linkage to market. 10

  12. 8. Agriculture Marketing (Focus on Reforms) • Existing A.P.M.C. markets are being modernized. 2. Model A.P.M.C. Act has not been amended for allowing private marketing in Delhi 11

Best practices adopted by the States • Public awareness programmes • Organic manure, use of complex grade fertilizers & Micro Nutrients • Use of Certified, high yielding and Hybrid Seeds for better Seed Replacement Rate • Seed treatment for better germination and crop stand. • Timely sowing and crop rotation • Judicious use of water, Drip & Sprinkler • I.N.M. and I.P.M. Practices • Availability of Agricultural Credit through Kisan Credit Card (6676), short & long term crop loan. 12
