How Long Will it Take to Graduate/Transfer? The average student will take approximately 3 yrs. How long it will take depends on the following factors: • Placement test scores • # of units taken each semester • Taking classes in the Summer? • Ability to maintain a competitive GPA, especially for • transfer. (“C’s are not consideredgood grades in college) • Educational goal (certificate, AA/AS, transfer) • Major & transfer school • Amount of time it takes to choose a major • Budget cuts
Transfer Overview • “Transfer in two years” assumes • College-level English and Math • 15 units transferable coursework each semester • No major change • May exclude high unit majors/selective institutions • GPA considerations • Unit distribution • General education 34-40 units • Major preparation 0-20+ units • Electives as needed ??? . • Minimum Total: 60 units

Balancing work and schoolwork: General Rule of Thumb. • If you plan to work while attending college: • 40 hrs a week --consider taking no more than --6 units • 30 hrs a week ---------------------------------------------9 units • 20 hrs a week ---------------------------------------------12 units • 5-15 hrs a week -------------------------------------------14-16 units
Workload Expectations • 2 hours of homework/study per hour in class • Math/Science: 3 hours homework/study per hour of class • Fall/Spring (16 weeks): 12-16 units recommended • Allot for travel, hygiene, home responsibilities
