Goals for the neighborhood The Dayton Street Neighborhoodwill be: attractive,safe,and bustling with homes, shops, and community amenities, so that people will want to live here. The neighborhood will include: • both homeowners and renters of mixed-incomes, • necessary services, including schools, health and educational programs within the neighborhood in order for residents to thrive and become self-sufficient, • a Training, Recreational and Educational Center for people to gather and socialize, • retail shops and industrial activity that serves the Airport, Port Area and near-by businesses, • walkable trails and open space, an improved park that is accessible to all the Neighborhood, • and public transportation that will connect the area to the Airport, downtown and directly to the New York transit system. A vision for the neighborhood… The Dayton Street Neighborhoodwill be: a neighborhood of NEW CONNECTIONS • reconnected blocks, safer streets, beautified streetscape, improved transit access a neighborhood of NEW OPPORTUNITIES • new & renovated homes, shopping & services, jobs & training, parks & recreation • a “MODEL COMMUNITY” for the City of Newark • a place that is “SAFE, BEAUTIFUL, and most of all PEACEFUL” • a place that is “fit for our FAMILIES to grow up in” • a place of “comfort for our ELDERLY” • a place that “serves COMMUNITY NEEDS” • a place with a “COOPERATIVE COMMUNITY”
