Every morning, the selected students put on the live broadcast. • The students that run the broadcast were picked in the sixth grade and are part of the team until they leave the school. The students completely run everything and have a teacher supervising them to assist them when necessary.
Technology on the inside… • Students are filmed by their peers using a video camera that will be broadcasted throughout the entire school. • There is lighting that brighten their smiling faces to give them a sense of a real news room.
Media Retrieval System • This allows the morning announcements to be aired on every TV and projector throughout the school. • There are several DVD players and VCR’s in the studio that will send the video to specific classrooms or TV’s depending on it’s content.
Technology on the outside… • Located in every classroom is a projector screen that students use to view the daily broadcast, it is because of the media retrieval system the entire school can view the broadcast at the same time.
Compare and Contrast:Lawrence Central and Belzer • The only major difference between the two school is that LC has a green screen. • This will allow the students to superimpose images of their choice behind them.
Geography • News Broadcast • Students will be assigned different countries to research. • They will look at things like weather, immigration, economy, population, etc. • From this information they will form a news broadcast for their class. • Students will want to address how the location of the country is affecting the topics they are looking at. • Once the information is gathered the class will be able to travel to the studio to produce their reports and then televise their findings to their peers.
Sociology • Short Film of a Social Movement • Students will select a social movement that is being discussed in class. • Students will make a period documentation of the event as if they were really there • Using the video equipment they will film their events and transmit the films to the class.
History • Historical Interviews • Students will pair up or get in small groups and select an influential figure in history such as Abe Lincoln. • They will research important events using the lap top cart, checked out by their teacher. • They will use the green screen (if in LC) to create a setting similar to that of their historical figure during the time of the interview.
