JCI Plan of Action 2013 2013 Goals of JCI: The organization has three goals in 2013: • To be recognized as a solution provider to the greatest global challenges of our time as defined by the eight(8) United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UN MDGs). • To empower members to respond to the needs of the world and consequently create a bigger impact • To improve the quality of service to JCI members around the world In 2013, JCI will focus on Individual Social Responsibility (ISR), inspired by the Japanese spirit of Omoiyari, to take action by creating positive change.
Action steps within the 2013 JCI PoA related to the UN MDGs • Enhance collaboration with key partners while continuing to pursue commitments to advance the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) • Continue the commitment to fund the purchase and distribution of one million insecticide-treated mosquito nets by 2015 (UN MDG 6) in collaboration with the UN Foundation during major events. The goal for 2013 will be USD$600,000. • Continue to promote the principles of the UN Global Compact ensuring the sign up of small and medium size enterprises. (UN MDG 8) • Seek the establishment of a partnership with a UN or other international agency to promote gender equality and maternal health (UN MDGS 3 and 5) • Coordinate a competent delegation to present a position paper representing the voice of young people to the G20 meeting in Russia. (UN MDG 8) • Implement the resolutions of the 2012 JCI Global Partnership Summit. Responsible parties: JCI Officers, National Officers, JCI Members, JCI World Headquarters Staff.
Action steps (cont’d) • Promote awareness and encourage local organizations to take action or activities related to the UN MDGs on JCI Active Citizen Day, December 11, 2013. • Continue to enhance the organization of the JCI Global Partnership Summit to engage existing partners and attract new partners. • Spread Omoiyari Spirit with training and encouraging Individual Social Responsibility Projects through the lens of the Active Citizen Framework and the UN MDGs. • Create an online platform that will monitor and track ongoing and completed member projects related to the UN MDGs around the world. • Facilitate & support the JCI Active Citizen Framework • Plan and organize the 2013 JCI Global Partnership Summit. Responsible parties: JCI Officers, National Officers, JCI Members, JCI World Headquarters Staff.
Goals: UN Affairs Commission 2013 • Increased awareness and promotion of the UN MDGs within National and Local Organizations, encouraging the use of the JCI Active Citizen Framework in project planning. • Increased awareness of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility as well as encouragement of working relationships between JCI National and Local Organizations and their corresponding UNGC Networks. • Successful promotion of the JCI Nothing But Nets Campaign to help achieve the 2013 fundraising target of USD $600,000. • Greater promotion and recording of MDG-related projects by JCI National and Local Organizations • Greater awareness of and participation in the JCI Global Partnership Summit.
JCI UN Affairs Commission - Guidelines The UN Affairs Commissioners are nominated by the JCI President, according to JCI Bylaw 8-23 & Policies 8-9, and are expected to act on behalf of JCI under the guidance and approval of the President or Secretary General. The UN Affairs Commission is required to adhere to JCIʼs policies and operational principles and the following guidelines: 1. The purpose of the Commission is to: a) Further the relationship between JCI (Junior Chamber International, Inc.) and the UN by: i. Promoting the 2013 JCI Global Partnership Summit ii. Implementing the 2012 JCI Global Partnership Summit Resolution iii. Promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and engaging organizations to incorporate them into project planning through the JCI Active Citizen Framework iv. Advancing the practices of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) within the Organization v. Promoting the UN Global Compact principles as well as encouraging working relations between JCI Local Organizations and the UN Global Compact Local Networks vi. Fundraising and creating awareness of the JCI Nothing But Nets Campaign. b) Act as a liaison between JCI National Organizations and report to commission chairperson and officers. Advocate the philosophy of the UN within each respective Area c) Encourage National and Local Organizations to report their projects related to the UN MDGs, CSR and JCI Nothing But Nets by uploading them to the JCI web site d) Submit recommendations for the following year for proposed action to be taken by JCI to the Chairperson (copy assigned JCI staff officer), who will report to the JCI Secretary General. The Secretary General will submit them to the Board of Directors.
JCI UN Affairs Commission - Guidelines 2. The Commission will enter no agreement or pledge or communication, nor make any formal statements or binding agreements to the UN, its agencies or to media. 3. The Commission is expected to work based on the guidance of the Commission Chairperson and assigned JCI staff officer. 4. For the sake of preserving continuity, the Commission understands that the JCI Secretary General or, by his request, his assigned JCI staff officer, is the main contact to the UN and its agencies. 5. The Commission is expected to upload reports to the JCI web site on his or her proposed plans and subsequent implementation, based on his or her terms of reference and the following reporting schedule: Plan of Action/Schedule of implementation Monday, January 21, 2013 Midyear (Progress Report Monday, July 1, 2013 World Congress (Final Report) Tuesday, October 1, 2013 6. The Commissioner must notify the Chairperson, with copies to the JCI Secretary General and his assigned JCI staff officer, when reports have been uploaded. 7. Copies of correspondence from the Commissioner to the JCI President, Chairperson and National Organizations must be sent to the JCI Secretary General and assigned JCI staff officer. 8. For purposes of these terms of reference, the assigned JCI staff officer is the Deputy Secretary General, Arrey Obenson (aobenson@jci.cc).
