  5. New BeginningsSpiritual HealthFaith Development Faith is a dynamic concept. Practicing spiritual disciples is liberating. The role of questioning and doubt is normal. It enables community learned ‘religion of the head’ to pass into a personal ‘religion of the heart’. Adult life cycle faith development or changes can occur in young adult, midlife and retirement. While most churches’ focus on the youth before college, it is important to note midlife and retirement are equally important opportunities for conversion and faith development.

New BeginningsSpiritual HealthFaith Development Principles and Practices Faith is a universal characteristic of humans; it is part of our created nature to be in a relationship with God. • Everyone is created in God’s image and should see themselves In a positive light. Always affirm the value, worth, and dignity of every person. There is nothing we can do to make someone come to faith; faith is a gift from God. • Teach and invite all ages to accept Christ as their Savior. But leave the spiritual work to God through the Holy Spirit.

One of the most important things we can do is to help others nurture their ‘Receptive Mode of Consciousness’.   11. New BeginningsSpiritual HealthWitness Declaration Today I am stepping across the line. I’m tired of waffling and I’m finished with wavering. I’ve made my choice; the verdict is in and my decision is irrevocable. I’m going God’s way. There is no turning back. I will live the rest of my life serving God’s purposes, with God’s people, on God’s planet, for God’s glory. I will use my life to celebrate his presence, cultivate his character, participate in his family, demonstrate his love, and communicate his Word. Since my past has been forgiven, and I have a purpose for living and a Home waiting in heaven, I refuse to waste any more time or energy on shallow living, petty thinking, trivial talking, thoughtless doing, useless regretting, hurtful resenting, or faithless worrying. Instead I will magnify God, grow to maturity, serve in ministry, and fulfill my mission in the membership of his family.

New BeginningsSpiritual HealthWitness Declaration Because this life is preparation for the next, I will value worship over wealth, “we” over “me”, character over comfort, service over status and people over possessions, position, and pleasure. I know what matters most and I will give it all I’ve got. I will do the best I can with what I have for Jesus Christ today. I won’t be captivated by culture, manipulated by critics, motivated by praise, frustrated by problems, debilitated by temptation, or intimidated by the devil. I’ll keep running my race with my eyes on the goal; not on the sidelines or on those running by me. When times get tough and I get tired, I won’t back up, back off, back down, back out, or backslide. I’ll just keep moving forward by God’s grace. I’m spirit-led, purpose-driven, and mission-focused so I can’t be bought. I will not be compromised, and I shall not quit until I finish the race.

I am a radical in the original sense of the word: rooted in Christ, rooted in love, and rooted in his Word. I hereby declare my supreme allegiance to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I say this: However, whenever, wherever, and whatever you ask me to do, my answer is yes! I’m ready. Anytime. Anyway. Whatever it takes Lord; whatever it takes! I want to be used by you in such a way that on that final day I’ll hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful one.   27. New BeginningsAbout Bob Chism Bob is the creator of New Beginnings (gonewbeginnings.org), a personal website dedicated to seeking, sharing, and serving second halfers. He is Certified in Aging Ministries (CAM) by the Center for Christian Leadership, Anderson University School of Theology in Indiana. He is a member of Village Church of Gurnee in Illinois and Christ Together of Lake County Illinois as well as a contributor to CASA Network and YES. Bob had a four decade career in finance& strategic planning, and was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Ohio and Illinois. He is a graduate of BowlingGreen and Northwestern Universities. Married 48 years to Karen June Bartel of Euclid, Ohio, he has five adult children, including two sons in laws, and seven grandkids.
