Why “Questions” ? You can never learn enough about all commonly used medicines by the whole population... But you can easily teach them to ask five questions before using a new drug.
The 5 Key Questions • What does this medicine do ? • How and when do I use it ? • For how long do I have to use it ? • May I drive when I take this medicine ? • What side effects or risks should I know about this medicine, and what do I do when they occur ?
Pharmacists will contribute to the development of these 5 questions : • Providing a model of counseling based on the questions • Encouraging patients to ask these questions • Providing advice, help and support to patients who want to know more about there medication. • Urging all commercial companies to structure their communication to the patient based on these 5 questions • Displaying posters and providing relevant literature
