  2. Genetically Modified foods – A Definition Genetically Modified foods (GM foods) are produced from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). GMOs have specific changes made to their DNA by genetic engineering. How does it work? Genetically Modified Organisms are organisms in which the DNA is altered so that it allows selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism to another. Prarthana Mocherla, GM Foods

  3. Why is Genetically Modified food needed When crops are attacked by insects and pests, the crops get destroyed. Genetically Modified foods are resistant to insects, pests and different weather conditions. They can even live in extreme weather conditions. Prarthana Mocherla, GM Foods

  4. Pros & Cons of GM Foods +’s -’s It can have health impacts on humans, including allergies. Might cause damage to the environment. For example, to the soil microbes, flora and fauna. There might be change of nutrients. It can harm the biodiversity- for e.g. the food chain may get affected. • Plants have improved resistance to diseases, pests, and bacteria. • Better taste and quality. • More nutrients • Reduced time to harvest • New growing techniques. 5. Public opinion on GM foods A large portion of people think that GM foods are good for the future and they should be continued, whereas a lot of people reject GM foods, saying it has bad health impacts.
