Quick Glance Perception Study: Unveiling Visual Insights in Natural Environments

Explore how humans perceive at a glance in natural settings through a behavioral experiment. Understand the impact of different factors on visual recognition and cognition. Project includes designing experiments, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions. Resources provided for further research. Get insights on masking effects, eye movement influence, and the role of processing time in perception.

  1. What can humans see with a single glance?

  2. Were there any animals in the picture? What was in the middle of the scene? Was this a natural or artificial environment?

  3. What object was here? How many chairs were there? Was this an indoor or outdoor environment?

  4. Interesting questions • What can people perceive from a short glance? • with masking? • without masking but also without eye movements? • How does perception improve with additional processing time? • What’s different when subjects know the questions beforehand? • performance always better? • are there tasks for which there’s no difference?

  5. Project components • Design behavioral experiment • stimuli, experimental conditions • questions posed to subjects • Perform pilot experiments on small number of subjects • Analyze results
