SUSTCULT Heritage Sites The project gathers 7 heritage sites (4 of which are included in the Unesco World Heritage List) dislocated in South East Europe: Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Romania, Albania, FYROM. These sites are engaged in Management Planning as well as in promoting their heritage and generate new jobs through a participatory approach able to guarantee a shared and effective sustainable management process.

Project results • 125 site managers and stakeholders trained within the online course (100 hours) and the 6 onsite intensive courses held in partner sites. • 50 meetings with stakeholders held in partners’ sites to share information, ensure participation, inclusive decision-making and involvement of local community • 100 GIS Maps published by each heritage site: web-GIS technology supports management activities and helps promoting territories and cultural resources in the SEE area
Project results • 1 Common Transnational Methodology which serves as a reference tool for authorities to develop and draft Management Plans (MPs) for heritage sites. • 7 Management Plans defining how the values of the site can be preserved. MPs are the central planning instrument for the protection, use, conservation and the successful development of World Heritage and Cultural sites in general. • 7 Business Plans and Market Analyses to create new opportunities for promoting and implementing targeted marketing actions able to boost local economies.
SUSTCULT Stakeholders Mainstakeholders: decisionmakers, civilservants, non-profit organisations, touristoperators, financialactors, institutionalsubjects, heritagemanagers. They are involved in the development of the Web-GIS platform, in the elaboration of the Management Plansand Business Plansfor specificresources, aswellas in Capacity Building activities.
SUSTCULT Methodology It is a supporting tool for managing authorities to develop and draft Management Plans to balance the protection and sustainable use of cultural heritage sites. It offers a step-by-step approach to collect/produce information, implement process and apply tools. The SUSTCULT Methodology is designed to be an operative tool and benefits from best practices and experiences from partners’ sites: The Methodology will be adjusted and modified once the SUSTCULT heritage sites have tested its usefulness and applicability

Capacity Building - to enhanceeffective capacity for integrated planning and management of cultural and natural heritage sites; - to encourage new attitudes and approaches to effective long-term sustainable management of heritage. Capacity Building activities 6 on-site intensive courses: held in partners’ sites and aimedat providing support in loco for further elaboration and implementation of management plans by applying the “Methodology for the Integrated Sustainable Management of Cultural. 1 on-line multidisciplinarycourse(Jan-June 2012): It included 4 Units and a Project work. Unit 1.Cultural/natural heritage and economic development, Unit 2. Unesco/European/SEE framework on Culture and WH sites. Unit 3. Integrated Management Planning, Unit 4.Marketing and sustainable tourism
Management Plans A Management Plan is an integratedplanthatisdeveloped to supportdecision-making and interventions on a heritage site. Within the project7 Management Plansare produced by applying the defined common Methodology. The MPswillnot be stand-alone documentsbutratherdynamicinstrumentsthatwilldefine: • Protection and enhacementobjectives • Action Plans • Projects to be implemented • Costsestimates • Monitoringindicators
Business Plans Business Plansanalysepotentialopportunities for economicdevelopment of cultural heritage. All 7 SUSTCULT siteswillcarry out Market Analysis and Business Plansin order to explorepossiblestrategy to attractresources and generate sustainableincome.
