APPLYING • OPEN ENROLLMENT: • -Graduate from High School or • -Complete GED • -Take ACT/SAT/WORK KEYS • CLOSED ENROLLMENT: • -Graduate from High School or • -Complete GED • -Take ACT/SAT/WORK KEYS • -Admission requirements: ACT Score, College level coursework, background check, sponsorship papers, etc…. • -Deadline

APPLYING • All students are eligible to apply (complete application) to NDSCS • Application fee ($35) • All students are accepted to NDSCS but not necessarily program (whether it’s a closed enrollment program or open enrollment) • To secure enrollment in a student’s selected program, the student will need to register for classes on scheduled registration date/day. Classes schedules are generated on a first come, first served basis regardless of application date

  4. CRIMINAL HISTORY • Beginning July 1, 2008, all applications, including common application, reapplication and continuing application, will include the following questions: • 1) Have you ever pled guilty (or no contest) to or been convicted of any felony? Yes/No • 2) Within the past 10 years, have you pled guilty (or no contest) to or otherwise been convicted of a misdemeanor crime involving violence or the threat of violence in any court? Yes/No • 3) Are you currently required to register as a sex offender in any state? Yes/No • 4) Have you been dismissed or suspended from a college or university for disciplinary reasons within the last 5 years ("Dismissed for disciplinary reasons" means a permanent separation from an institution due to conduct or behavior. "Suspended for disciplinary reasons" means a sanction imposed for disciplinary reasons that results in a student leaving school for a fixed period but not permanently.) Yes/No

CRIMINAL HISTORY • -Letter is sent requesting criminal history to be sent to NDSCS from state(s) • -Reviewed 30 days prior to the start of the semester by committee • -Each application with criminal history is reviewed on a case by case • -Student may be: Conditionally admitted • Not eligible to live on campus • Notify Enrollment Services of changes to probation • Students Rights and Responsibilities Reviewed • No infractions • Not admitted • -Some programs do require an additional background check (more intensive) • -Some programs it is difficult to obtain employment with a criminal history

  6. •ACT •SAT •WORK KEYS • -No minimum maximum score for most programs (ACT score does effect placement and scholarship opportunities) • -Must have ACT or SAT if enrolling in: associate in arts or associate in science program • -Students enrolling in certificate, diploma and associate in applied science programs are strongly encouraged to take the ACT (preferred) or the SAT exam; however, NDSCS may admit based on Compass • -Closed admission programs • -Financial aid eligible • -If it is not complete at the time of enrollment, completed within the first semester

EXEMPTIONS • Students who would be exempt from taking ACT: • a.Students age 25 or older on the first day of class • b.Students from foreign countries other than Canada • c.Students transferring 24 or more semester credits accepted into a degree program at the receiving campus • However, some students may need to take the COMPASS for course placement.

  8. TESTING CENTER • Tests administered at NDSCS prior to student’s enrollment: • ►ACT • ►SAT • ►GED • ►WORKKEYS • ►TOEFL

  9. ABILITY TO BENEFIT • Students without High School Diploma or a GED must take the Ability to Benefit Test (ATB). New process started July 1, 2011. • Student reports to Enrollment Services • Enrollment Services informs the Test Center • Only Karen and Maria are certified to administer this test • Student: • Must pass all three ATB parts: Reading, Writing, Math • May repeat all three tests a maximum of 3 times per month • First test is free of charge

WORK KEYS ■WorkKeys testing qualifies students for scholarships ■Students can be accepted to NDSCS based on the WorkKeys tests results but must take a COMPASS test to determine course placement ■ASC Test Center administers WorkKeys 3 times per year - December, January, February, or by appointment ■Fee - $40.00 for all three tests or $15.00 per test Test components: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for information

  11. INTERNATIONAL APPLICATION • -Complete International application • -TOEFL is not required • -Additional paperwork is needed • -Completed information that meets requirements will be issue F-1 or M-1 visa to study • -Maintaining F-1 Status

COURSE PLACEMENT-MATH • State–wide changes in math placement will take effect Fall Semester 2012. • Entry-Level Assessment Committee will be finalizing NDSCS Course Placement Guide prior to Fall 2012 registration. • Finalized Placement Guide will be available before the end of Spring Semester 2012.

STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY • Students are encouraged to contact the Students Accessibility Office and apply for services prior to semester start • Students must provide recent documentation supporting the need for accommodations and complete the application process • Once eligible, students must meet with the Student Accessibility Coordinator each semester to verify accommodations

  21. STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY • Common academic accommodations include extended time on tests, testing in a quiet environment, and note-taking • Housing accommodation and sign language interpreter requests need to be submitted as soon as possible as these can take up to 6 weeks to organize

  22. RESIDENCY • Students who live on campus and take part in a meal plan: Pay ND tuition • Students who do not live in ND or have not graduated from ND high school or do not take part in a meal plan and or live on campus are charged at different rates (MN with reciprocity, MSEP, WICHE, Border, etc..) • Fargo and Online programs are charged at a different rate • Request to change residency: Enrollment Services
