The Industrial Engineering Department is offering undergraduate and graduate programs. The B.S. program in industrial engineering aims at providing an interdisciplinary educational foundation for its graduates to understand, find and implement solutions with a systems engineering perspective.
To achieve this objective students are provided with the essential tools which enable them to deal with the technological, business and human aspects of problems in complicated systems.
Graduates of the IE program are prepared for employment in technologically and socially developed organizations, or for pursuing research work at graduate level.
The undergraduate program requires a total of 149 credit hours: 53 credit hours from university core, 28 credit hours from faculty core, 50 credit hours from area core and 18 credit hours from area electives in line with the “general education” philosophy.
Regular course load for students in industrial engineering department during an ordinary semester is 5 or 6 courses (about 18-20 credit hours) whereas in summer semester the students can take at most 2 courses.
The first year (first two semesters) of the engineering program is dedicated to basic sciences (physics and chemistry), freshmen calculus and University core courses. The IE program includes 5 courses from Mechanical Engineering (engineering graphics, engineering materials, statics, thermodynamics and principles of production),
2 courses from Computer Engineering (computer literacy and programming), one course from Electrical Engineering (fundamental concepts) and 3 courses from Faculty of Business and Economics (management, economics, accounting).
Apart from basic calculus there are concentrated mathematic courses on linear algebra, differential equations, probability theory and statistics.
Students are required to take 3 English courses, 1 course on written and oral presentation and 2 courses on critical thinking supported with SPIKE courses for the first two years
Additionally, the program offers flexibility for students to build up their background with 10 elective courses (4 university elective and 6 area elective).
Departmental courses are focused on the following core topics: operations research, work study and ergonomics, engineering economy, production planning, simulation, production information systems, facilities layout and location, quality engineering.
Case studies, laboratory work, intensive computer usage and technical report writing are among the requirements of coursework. Students have to complete two separate 4-week summer trainings in industrial production plants.
In their final semester they are also required to carry out a senior design project course in which they can make a synthesis of a variety of engineering design topics
Starting with Spring 2003/04, the Industrial Engineering Department started to offer for its successful students the opportunity to go through Double Major Program in Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering disciplines
REGISTRATION, ACCEPTANCE AND APPLICATION REGULATIONS OF THE DOUBLE MAJOR PROGRAMS
Primary major program”, defines the undergraduate program that the student is registered • Secondary major program”, defines the secondary undergraduate program that the student is requesting to receive the diploma of the undergraduate program additional to his/her primary major program
Double major program”, defines the educational program that has been designed from the combination of the primary and secondary programs and the program that enables the student to receive the diploma of both major programs
Double Major Program, is formed from the total credits of all of the courses in the primary major program and at least 36 credits
In order to apply the double major program, the student: • Should have been registered at least one semester to one of the programs that form the double major program and renew his/her registration during the semester of application • Can apply as early as the beginning of the third semester, and as late as the beginning of the sixth semester of the primary major program
Should have succeeded from all the credited courses of the primary major program at least with D grade until the semester of application • Should have cumulative grade point average (CGPA) not less than 3.00 • When accepted to the double major program he/she should register to the double major program during the course add/drop period of the involved academic semester
Success in the Program and Leaving the Program • A student who wants to leave the double major program by his own consent applies to the department chair of the primary major program with a written petition until the last day of the add/drop period
The student will be dismissed from the Double Major Program if his/her CGPA falls below 2.75 in the primary major program or falls below 2.00 in the secondary major program in two consecutive academic semesters. • The student will be dismissed from the Double Major Program if he/she does not take any course in two consecutive semesters from the secondary major program
Those students who are dismissed or left the program with his/her own consent cannot apply to the double major program again

Academic Warning • A student will receive an Academic Warning if in a given semester he/she obtains a CGPA lower than the CGPA limit set for the student’s acdemic term described in the following table:
