The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order.-Alfred North Whitehead
IGETC Standards Review Three main goals: • Maintain the Academic Standards of IGETC (10.0) • Help Students that have met those standards get counseled and certified as efficiently as possible • Eliminate procedural barriers in order to increase and streamline certification
New IGETC Standards: Highlights • The “recommended” IGETC form (11.5) • No more simple “check marks” on transcripts, please! • Try to create the same “fields” of information on your form • Partial IGETC Certification • “Good cause” no longer necessary • Timing restrictions eliminated • UC Berkeley College of Letters & Science: • No Partial Certification • Case by case basis
Certification of IGETC (11.0) • Certification is completed by the last community college attended during a regular session (fall or spring for semester schools; fall, winter or spring for quarter schools) (11.1) • Any community college can certify at their discretion, even if they are not the last CCC attended (11.1) • No limitation of courses from other US regionally accredited institutions (11.0) • Must use official transcripts (Except for LOTE)
The New AP Chart (7.1) • Gives subject credit for specific areas • Relieves the burden of having to find campus specific course equivalency • Creates uniformity throughout the state
Establishing Equivalency for Non-CCC Courses • Using any CCC IGETC course list to establish equivalency for non-CCC courses (5.2.1 #2)-not only yours!: • Check for appropriate unit value (8.0) • Check for appropriate grades (9.0) • United States regionally accredited institution (11.0 and 5.0 at top) • Content trumps approval date! (under 5.2.1)

Combining quarter and semester units to satisfy requirements (8.2) • Convert units to either all quarter or all semester units to satisfy an area, regardless of whether you are a quarter or semester institution • Example: Student has 6 semester units of Econ and 4 quarter units of general Psychology • 6 x 1.5 = 9 quarter units + 4 quarter units =13
Upper Division Coursework (5.2.2) • For general introductory courses from an outside institution, the main consideration should be to: • Analyze course to determine if the course content matches an approved IGETC course • Please note: CSU requires 39 units of lower division coursework, so some students may need to take additional lower division coursework after transfer
CSU U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals Requirement (10.7) • CSU campuses have the discretion whether to allow courses used to satisfy the CSU United States History, Constitution and American Ideals (AI) graduation requirement to count in both Area 3B/4F and to meet the AI graduation requirement.
