  1. Verification Overview What is Verification? Independent, third-party review of reported emissions Why is it Important? Ensures that an inventory is complete, transparent, and accurate Provides accountability to stakeholders Who is a Verifier? The Climate Registry recognizes Verification Bodies that have been accredited to ISO 14065 and demonstrated knowledge of The Climate Registry’s General Reporting Protocol and General Verification Protocol A list of accredited Verification Bodies is on the website 1

Basic Principles of Verification • Independence • The verification process must be free from bias and conflicts of interest • Ethical Conduct • Verification Bodies must demonstrate trust, integrity, confidentiality, and discretion throughout the process • Fair Presentation • Verification Bodies will reflect the results of verification activities truthfully and accurately • Due Professional Care • Verification Bodies will exercise due professional care and judgment and maintain the necessary skills and competences for verification

Verification Standard • Verification Bodies must verify Members’ GHG emission reports according to the following standards: • The Registry’s General Verification Protocol • ISO 14064-3 (Specification with Guidance for the Validation and Verification of Greenhouse Gas Assertions) • Your GHG report is verified to The Registry’s General Reporting Protocol

Five Core Verification Activities After the kick-off meeting your Verification Body will work to: Assess your conformance with the Registry’s requirements Assess the completeness of your emission report Perform a risk-based assessment Develop a sampling plan for your data and facilities to be visited. Evaluate your GHG information systems and controls and emission estimates against verification criteria 4 4

Facility Visits Table 4.2 • The Registry requires a minimum number of sites be visited • Table 4.2 of GVP • The VB will determine the number and the type of facilities to visit as part of a dynamic sampling plan • The VB will inform the Member of the facilities it will visit • VB submits a Planned Facility Visits Form at least 15 days before scheduled visits

  6. Documentation • Verification Bodies must produce the following documents to complete The Registry’s verification process: • Verification Report: includes scope, description of verification plan, complete list of facilities, sampling plan, list of any discrepancies identified • Verification Statement:official documentation of the outcome of the verification activities
