Fats • Helps brain and nervous system develop • 2 types • Unsaturated (good) • saturated + trans fat(bad) • Good reduces bad cholesterol • Bad increases chance of heart disease • Sources: dairy, alternatives, veggies etc…
Protein • Builds, maintains, replaces tissues • 2 types • Incomplete(vegetable) • Complete(animal sources) • Incomplete lacks essential amino acids • Complete contains all essential amino acids • Sources: Alternatives, meats, dairy, veggies
Fibre • Helps move food through the digestive system • 2 types • Soluble fibre (partially dissolves in water) • Insoluble fibre (doesn’t dissolve in water ) • Soluble lowers cholesterol • Insoluble helps constipation • Sources: grains, fruits, veggies, etc….
