  3. Multicellular Organisms Multicellular organisms are organisms made up of many different cells.

  5. Cells to Organisms Cell – the basic unit of life. Tissue – a group of cells specialised to perform a particular function. Organ – A structure made of different tissues which are coordinated to perform one or more functions. System – A group of related tissues and organs.

  8. Collect a microscope... • Look down the microscope at 3 different cells which might be found in a multicellular organism. • Complete the table provided.

  10. Task Use the sheet provided to match the cell to it’s structure and function.

  11. Task • You have been allocated a cell type in pairs. • Build a model which will show the key features of your cell type. • Explain how the key structures relate to their function. • Prepare to present your model and explanation to the class.

  12. Question Time! • Why are xylem cells needed in the root, stem and leaves of a plant? • Explain how the structure of a red blood cell makes it suited to it’s function. • Explain how palisade mesophyll cells are particularly suited to carrying out photosynthesis.
