A recent study by Uncle Sam Department of Health & Human Services shows that more than half of the people who undergo the treatment programs to remove the dreaded marijuana monkey off their back only do so because the criminal justice system gave them the choice of rehab or prison. Federal data shows that nearly 60 percent of people who use painkillers are, from the black market, meanwhile only around 20 per cent rely on script by a doctor. Of the 22.5 million people in the United States in need of drug treatment federal research reveals that only about 10 percent receive assistance through various treatment programs. Moreover, the notion of forcing marijuana users into drug treatment courses as penance for found in possession of a substance legally accessile  around the country. In addition they  jam up many facilities and creating a waiting lists using up resources which could be better put to use  for those people with real problems. “The new federal data shows that legalizing marijuana and save money and resouces in drug treatment programs and could be applied to people who really want and need help,” Angell concluded.
