Good morning, everyone! How are you this morning? Today let’s review the previous lesson on. Benefits of Exercise
Last week we learned from Uncle Bun about why people need to get some exercise and how we can keep our bodies strong and healthy.
Let’s listen to the conversation between Uncle Bun and the little girl again. Do you remember what they talked about?
Uncle Bun, please tell me why people should get some exercise. Well, it’s because exercise can make us healthy and active.
Research studies indicate that small improvement in physical fitness can lower the risk of death. Simply walking regularly can extend life in the elderlyand young people.
Moderately fit people have a lower death rate than the least fit. Remember that it’s never too late to start exercising!
Could you tell me about some forms of exercise? What are they? There are three forms.
The first form is resistance exercise, such as weight training. This kind of exercise can make you rich, too, if you win an Olympic gold medal, like Paweena and Udomporn. This form of exercise can slow and reverse the decline in muscle mass, bone density, and strength, especially in older people.
This form of workouts includes swimming. Another form of workouts is flexibility exercise. It focuses on speed and agility. It may be more protective for older people. It helps reduce the stiffness and loss of balance that comes with aging.
Finally, aerobic exercise is the best form of workout for the oxygen in the body to regulate more easily.
Now I know why we need to exercise. How come? You should also know that exercise can also prevent heart disease.
Well, inactivity is one of the four major risk factors for heart disease besides smoking, cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
Exercising makes the heart become stronger and larger, so it can pump more blood through the body. The heart rate of people with enough exercise is slower because less effort is needed to pump blood.
For preventing heart disease, frequency of exercise is more important than duration. Exercise can even help reverse some bad effects from smoking.
Besides, people who maintain an active lifestyle have a lower risk of heart disease than do sedentary people. Moderate exercise can also reduce the risk of heart attack. Moderate dietary changes with an aerobic exercise program can improve cholesterol levels and lower the risk of coronary artery disease.
That’s right. Start now! Don’t wait until it’s too late! So, all children should be encouraged to exercise to prevent heart disease, right?
Let’s work on some review exercises now. Let’s see if you can answer these questions!
