Describe how nationalism led to independence in India and Vietnam. d. Describe the impact of communism in China in terms of Mao Zedong, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and Tiananmen Square.
  3. FIRST FIVE Agenda Message: Welcome to the start of the 2nd semester for 7th grade. First semester report cards are issued Friday, January 10th. Standard: Analyze continuity and change in S&EA leading to the 21st century as it relates to the History of Indian & Vietnam. Essential Question for Wednesday, 1/8/14: What are the “Indian National Congress” and the “Muslim League”? Warm Up: Name the top four religions in the world. Today We Will: Review Policies & Procedures Continue DVD History of India & Gandhi’s Non-violent Protests leading to India’s Independence
  4. answers E.Q. Answer for Wednesday 1/8/14: The Indian National Congress was an organization formed to work towards the end of British rule in India. It was mainly made up to Hindus. The Muslim League was formed for the same purpose but was mainly made up of Muslims. Warm-Up Answer: Christianity Islam Hinduism Buddhism

Standard: Analyze continuity and change in S&EA leading to the 21st century as it relates to the History of Indian & Vietnam.   6. answers E.Q. Answer for Thursday 1/9/14: In European colonialism the Europeans controlled the government and the economy of foreign countries even though they were minorities in that country. Their primary interest was taking advantage of local natural resources, low-cost labor, and markets in order to make huge profits. Warm-Up Answer: Great Britain

The Muslim League supported the British war effort. Warm-Up Answer: The desire for people of a common ethnic group to be free from colonial influence and to control their own government, economy, and future.

Answer for Thursday 1/16/14: When India gained its independence from Britain the Muslims were given a separate country, Pakistan, while India remained predominantly Hindu. “Religion” therefore determined where people lived. Warm-Up Answer: The British passed a new law (the Rowlett Act) which allowed Indians to be arrested and thrown into prison for up to three years without ever having the opportunity of going to court.
