Alcohol related research in recent past • The GENACIS project (start 2001)gender and cultural context of alcohol consumption • Alcohol and Injury (WHO Project, national final report 2002) the role of alcohol in injuries treated in emergency room in the Prague University Hospital • HIS (WHO Survey) • Health and Addictive Behaviour (NIPH)

Challenges of the new project • First attempt to work with GPs in the field of alcohol prevention Supportive factors: • Goals are congruent with the objectives of the health policy of the country • More understanding from the side of the general public as well as the media • Well funtioning network of regional centres of public health

  5. Difficulties and barriers • Unclear position in the project • Insuficient funding from domestic resources • Modest interest of GPs to be involved in alcohol related problems of the patients • Lack of experience with community oriented prevention projects

  6. Preliminary goals defined on national level • Creating network for support of the project (public health centres, medical students, professional associations, health insurance agencies etc.) • Adapt and publish guidelines, manuals.. • Organize training seminars • Evaluate feedback
