  1. Future Problem Solving Group Members: Lee VintVe Tan Bryan Liang Jia Wei Lim Jeremy

Underlying Problem Given that the Future Scene shows that social and political instability may cause riots to occur in Vandaquim which may shun investors away from Vandaquim, how might we improve social relationships amongst citizens and the government so that investors will slowly start to invest in Vandaquim again due to the decrease in riots (Racial & Political) by 2060 so that there is minimal damage to the society and economy in Vandaquim.

  3. Establishment of a common Language • The government will establish a common language among the citizens of Vandaquim by making English a compulsory subject for all Vandaquimians. The government can also revamp the education system to continue teaching the mother tongues of the different races. This will ensure that there can be better communication among Vandaquimians and between foreigners while still preserving the culture and heritage of various races. This will also reduce the likelihood of misunderstandings between racial groups, therefore reducing the chances of a riot.

  4. Appoint a Foreign Minister • The government will form a committee to go to other countries and invite overseas investors to invest in Vandaquim. The committee will also hold talks with the investors currently in Vandaquim to assure them that Vandaquim will remain a secure place for their investments. Incentives will also be given to the investors if they choose to come to Vandaquim / remain in Vandaquim such as tax exemption, discounts on land/ rent fees etc. This will encourage the investors to remain in Vandaquim and even attract investors from other countries to come to Vandaquim and lead to the growth of Vandaquim’s economy.

  5. Appeal to the Citizens • The government will hold open dialogue sessions (Q&A, meet the people session, etc.) to better understand the needs of Vandaquimians and allow the government to gain favor with the citizens and allow the citizens to be happier as they recognize that their needs and concerns are being addressed. This will reduce the chances of a riot and will allow Vandaquim to regain the trust of foreign investors so they will remain in Vandaquim.

  6. ASEAN • 4. The government will build better relationships with neighboring countries through ASEAN and can ask other countries to provide financial aid by providing national loans to Vandaquim. This money can be used to improve and upgrade the education system or can be invested in industrialization to create a stable source of revenue. This will allow Vandaquimians to be better educated due to the extra funds. This will also reduce the chances of a political riot as Vandaquim’s economy will also grow and provide more jobs to Vandaquimians.

  7. Law Enforcement • 5. The government will employ more police officers and place the law enforcement agency on alert for any possible signs of a riot. The police and security agencies can increase the frequency of patrols and recruit more officers. This will deter the potential rioters from starting a riot and can also control and suppress a riot to prevent too much damage from being done to the society and economy of Vandaquim. This will result in lower chance of a riot and a less damaging one should it ever happen.

  8. Merger • 6. The government will request for merger from neighboring countries so that they can help with Vandaquim’s problems, regarding both society and economy. This will help suppress the potential riots from the society, solve financial problems that Vandaquim has, provide more jobs for both the educated citizens and non-educated citizens, etc. After solving the problems, Vandaquim would have a sufficient income
