  1. To investigate the effect of magnetising seeds Group:1-011 Team Members Edwin Lim 1P3 Lee Joon Jie 1P3 Aloysius Lim

  2. Contents • Introduction of our research topic • Our hypothesis • Our control • Our variables • The materials we will be using • The procedure of our experiment

  3. Introduction to our research topic We are going to… • find out how magnetising a seed will affect its growth. • magnetise some seeds with the North and and some with the South magnetic unipole • magnetise the seeds with magnets of different strengths to see how it affects the seed’s growth.

  4. Hypothesis • The seed that is magnetised would grow taller and faster than the seed that is not magnetised. • The seeds that are magnetised will have an increased ph level compared to the seed that is not magnetised • The seeds that are magnetised will have increased quantities of sugar

  5. Variables

  6. Materials • 33 pots • 33 petunia seeds • 33 chilli seeds • 33 peanut seed

  7. Materials • An enclosed generally cylindrical housing which has a closable access opening where seeds are placed for treatment. • Drive means associated with the cylindrical housing for rotating the housing so that the seeds roll and tumble in the cylindrical housing

  8. Materials

  9. Materials • The magnets must be flat and as long as the cylindrical housing. • 10000 lux grow light • 30kg of loam soil • 3kg of fertiliser

  10. Procedure • Place 30 of each seeds in an enclosed generally cylindrical housing which has an opening • Put water in the cylindrical housing as the seeds have to be in contact with water while rolling and tumbling • Put the magnet on the outside of the cylindrical housing parallel to it. There will be a drive to rotate the housing • Wait for 3h. • Place 750cm³ of soil into 33 pots.

  11. Procedure 6. Put fertilizer into the soil 7. Put the 3 non-magnetised chilli seeds, petunia seeds and peanut seeds each in a pot and place them under the 10000 lux grow lights 8. Place the seeds with exposure to different magnetic field strength and different unipoles into the different pots and place them under the 10000 lux grow lights. 9. Water them daily and measure their height daily 10. Measure the pH level. 11. Measure the sugar level

  12. Procedure

  13. Procedure

  14. Procedure

  15. Procedure • For comparing how the unipoles of the magnet affects the seed, we will compare the seeds in the ‘A’ pots with the seeds in the ‘B’ pots • For comparing how the strength of the magnet affects the seeds, we will compare the seeds from the ‘A’ pots with one another and we will do the same for the ‘B’ pots • We will compare the height of the plant , its growth rate, its sugar level and its pH level

  16. Procedure • After the experiment, results will be displayed and graphs will be potted. From there, we will make deduction and find out how magnetising a seed affects its growth ,sugar level and pH level.
