  1. NIRSpec Detector Status in the Operations Detector Lab Mike Regan

  2. It’s not dead, yet!

  3. In the future the lab will be more focused on science optimization of both HST and JWST detectors • Near Term • NIRSpec DQE testing • ASIC development unit testing • WHIRC development • IRMOS maintenance • Medium Term • WFC3 testing (Roberto PI) • Long Term • JWST NIR detector investigation with/wo ASIC • ASIC optimization • MIRI detector testing • Major upgrade required

  4. The dark current is ~100 times what we expect for science grade detectors.

  5. Image of the Dark current

  6. We have a set of R=100 flats from 1-5 microns.

  7. NIR Detector Investigations (JWST & WFC3) • IDTs are driven by cost and schedule • In-fight detector problems due to disconnect between detector measurement and using a detector. • Dark current vs. uncertainty in measurement • Point sources on detector vs. flat fields • Can instrument dewars really get dark? • Pipeline investigation • Reference pixels • Dark subtraction • Cosmic ray identification and removal • Optimum weighting • ASIC does A/D conversion so we are close to flight-like • Optimize detector parameters (biases and clocks)
