Regionals • Starting the last week in February or the first week in March regional competitions are held all over the US as well as one each in Israel and Brazil. • The competitions are usually held Thursday-Saturday at major universities.
Different Areas During the competition, these universities are split into different areas. These areas are: • The Pit • The Field • The Stands
Rounds of competition These competitions consist of 3 days of competition during which teams participate in 3 different rounds of competition, which are: • Practice • Seeding • Elimination
Scouting • During the competition, teams are constantly trying to figure out each other’s strategies. • Teams watch each other in their matches to see how well they perform.
Picking The Teams in the Top 8 usually pick other teams to be on their alliance for 3 different reasons: • Reputation • Secret Alliances • Best Robot
Awards • During the Regional, several awards are given out by judges watching matches and teams. • The judges watch for creativity, sportsmanship, and gracious professionalism.
The Championship • In Atlanta, Georgia, every year is the international competition known as the Championship. • Since there are so many teams, the championship is split into 4 divisions. • In order to get to Atlanta you have to qualify.
This Year in Michigan • FIRST has decided to pilot a new competition program in Michigan only this year. • This new competition program has many differences from the regular regionals.
