Causes • There are many types and causes of Arthritis • Autoimmune (Rheumatoid) • General Wear and Tear: Osteoarthritis (most common) • Infections and diseases
Prevention • Weight control • Avoid excessive repetitive motion. • Be aware of your family history and talk with your doctor. • Early detection to prevent further joint damage
Management • There is no cure. • Goal is to prevent further damage and minimize pain, swelling and stiffness • Weight control, weight loss • Exercise: low-impact aerobic activity, water exercises flexibility and strength training
Management • Heat or ice • Massage • Physical therapy, yoga • 8-10 hours of sleep • Diet, rich in fruits, vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids
