Napoleonic Wars-Continued • Second Italian Campaign (1800) • Plan to catch Austrians by surprise • Faced Austrians at Marengo on June 14 • Victory for France • Signed a treaty and stopped fighting in Europe • Ulm-Austerlitz Campaign (1805) • Marched to England where Austrians lined up • Russians were coming to their aid • Attacked Austria before Russians arrived • Victory for France • Paraded through streets of Vienna • Francis I fled • Prussia was threatening to declare war

Napoleonic Wars-Continued • Prussian Campaign (1806-1807) • Napoleon defeated Prussians at Jéna and Auserstädt • Marched through Berlin then to Poland to defeat Russia • Napoleon fought Russia • Alexander I agreed to become France’s ally • Peninsular War (1808-1813) • Entered Lisbon • Installed Joseph (his brother) to the Spanish throne • Attacked Madrid and kept soldiers in Spain for 5 more years

Napoleonic Wars-Continued • Austrian War (1809) • Austrian planned to liberate neighboring countries • Francis I refused to sign a peace treaty after another French defeat • Napoleon attacked again with his largest army • Francis I agreeded to a peace treaty after the last time the Austrians would be defeated • Russian Campaign (1812) • Alexander I refused to blockade Britain • Napoleon invaded Russia • Russia withdrew after both sides were exhausted • Victory for France • Napoleon entered and burned Moscow to the ground

Napoleonic Wars/Fall from Glory • Waterloo Campaign (1815) • Louis XVIII took the throne after Napoleon abdicated • Britain and Prussia were waiting in Belgium • Napoleon wanted to defeat them seperatly before the Russians and Austrians arrived • Napoleon waited for the Duke of Wellington (Britain soldier) • Marshal Bleucher von Wahlstatt (Prussia) greatest desire was to shoot Napoleon • Waited for 5 hours for attack ordered • No order was given • Napoleon returned to France in shame • Abdicated once again

  9. Napoleon’s Death • Death • The English took Napoleon to St. Helena and left him to die • Died on May 5, 1821 from cancer
