INTRODUCTION The nervous system and endocrine system help all the systems of human body to co-operate and function normally.
THE PARTS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. • Nervous system is divided into two parts-central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. • The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord.the brain and the spinal cord are covered by three membranes-piamater,arachnoid mater and duramater.
MEDULLA OBLONGATA. The medulla oblongata is at the posterior end of the brain. It controls the heart beat and respiration.Damage to the medulla oblongata leads to death. Hence it is called “vital KNOT”.
Spinal cord. It is tubular in structure and continues from the medulla oblongata. It is about 45cmlong. The spinal cord lies in the neural canal of the vertebral coloumn. Spinal cord is responsible for the reflex action.
THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. The peripheral nervous system consists of the cranial nervous and the spinal nervous.these nerves connect various parts of the body with the central nervous system.
