  2. Introduction What is fasting? When is fasting? Fasting today? Why was Jesus questioned about fasting

  3. Wedding Feast • Planned around traditional fast days • Guests indulged in food and drink • Rich and poor came together • People were generous (bringing food and drink) • Even beggars were welcome • Everyone was joyful

  4. Clothing • Expensive • Was handed down from generation to generation • Patches on clothing • New cloth patch on old clothing does not work

  5. Goat skins • Used to hold wine • New wine continues fermenting • Old skins did not have elasticity and would burst

  6. For us today • Jesus offers his view on the traditions of the Elders • Jesus is always with us therefore we should always be joyful • Traditions of the church should be periodically examined (perhaps replaced)

  7. For us today (continued) • Are traditions biblically based? • The church should be like a wedding feast!
