  2. Current Scenario • Focus on Theoretical Knowledge • No platform for innovation • Defined Educational Paths – Career driven • Infrastructure Issues at school level • Lack of E- learning mechanisms

  3. Result • Most of the students end up doing a “Solar –cooker “ or “Wind- Mill” • Set patterns of higher education • Abysmally small number of Phd’s/ Research/Patents (espvs China) • Lack of group dynamics and project management abilities

  4. Causes • No incentive for students – “ only 30 % of wieghtage” for project work(CBSE) • Most of the students get around 25-27 in spite of doing dummy projects • Some state boards have a 0 % component of project • Focus is to get good marks and hence schools are lenient in grading project work • Focus is just on the end deliverable which can be easily bought for 200-300 rupees • Parents are not sensitive towards benefit of practical learning and knowledge

Recommendations • Creation of a new subject “Practical Sciences” • 90 marks subject • Students have to select between (physics , chemistry , biology) • Continuous evaluation scheme • Focus on effort than final result • Web based repository for project documentation • Group based exercise • Mandatory Industry Visit • Mentorship by Senior class students • Marks on creativity

  7. Further Ideas • Evaluation • 50% evaluation by school • Rest 50 % by a instructor chosen randomly from some other school • Organize a summer camp • Collaboration with research/educational institutes • Rewards for top 15 projects in terms of scholarship
