Who invented the bus and why? • Blaise Pascal was a mathematician, inventor, physicists, philosopher, author, and general savant. • The first bus was invent in Paris, March, 1662. • The system started with a 7 horse drawn vehicle. It was able to carry 6 to 8 passengers each. • Five Penny Coaches were first popular but then wore off. Bus routes were out by 1675. Blaise Pascal
Did the invention change or evolveever since it was invented? • In 1830, Sir Goldworthy Gurney of Great Britain designed a large stagecoach driven by steam engine. • Germany then, designed an eight passenger omnibus, driven by 4-horse power single cylinder in 1985.
Continue… • Sight seeing companies brought buses to the US. Mack Trucks Inc., in 1904 had nominal seating capacity of 15 with a cylinder gasoline engine developing 36 horsepower 120 mph. In 1926, Fageol developed the first intergal-frame bus with engines mounted amidships manufacturers under the floor. Mack and Yellow Truck & Coach were the early manufacturers in the US. Both built gasoline electric models. The most popular transportation company is the MTA (Maryland Transit Administration).
