Purpose • Demonstrate Common Dose Calculation • Source term from AP-1000 Design Control Document • Annual-average release • Long-term release and environmental accumulation (30 years) • Various options for surface water dispersion modeling • Individual Dose for 4 Age Groups • Approximate population distribution from EIS 2
Problem Description Calculate the dose from radionuclides discharged into a river to a maximally exposed adult, teen, child and infant. The discharge flow rate is 10 cfm and the river flow is 1000 cfm. The exposure pathways include using the river water for drinking water, swimming, boating and shoreline sunbathing, fishing, and irrigation of crops and pastures. Use dose conversion factors from Federal Guidance-13. The source term is provided by the GALE code for a routine liquid pathway release. 3

Summary • GENII V.2 has many capabilities for evaluating releases of radionuclides into surface waters • Source terms may be input directly; future enhancements may include “GALE-like” features • Environmental models may require a lot of data • Doses can be calculated various ways (many types of individuals or a population group) • Future enhancements could replicate the various cooling pond models 12
