Planning Application LodgedPartnership between Tarmac and West Berkshire • RSPB, English Nature, Environment Agency all had major concerns • Local people objected ( ‘T’ Shirts ) • The application went through every committee stage possible at West Berks. • When approved the application went to GOSE and approved eventually by the ODPM

Restoration Objectives • Create wetland areas • Re-grade the surface – microhabitats • Expose true acidic soils to support heathland • Re-establish seepage lines / mires • Re-create incised valley heads Greenham Common Restoration – 2000 / 2001
To unlock the Restoration Objectives • 27.5 Ha had to be re-profiled / restored • Removal to Lower Farm of 707,000m3 of ballast by separating it from material contaminated with hydrocarbons at the Common for Bio-remediation • Over 1 million m3 soil to be moved to create landform • Cost of overall contract £1.5 million
