Meet Your Counselors What do they do? • Schedule new students • Programming for next school year • Academic planning • Keep track of quality points and credits for each student • Career classroom guidance • Duke/Hills TIP • Social Issues/Crisis • Academic interventions • Mediations • Participate and Chair committees (CST,ELL,504,RTI) • Mentoring program, Connect A Kid • Consult with students/ parents/teachers
Have a Struggling Student??? Math or Reading Science or Social Studies History Project Help: Tuesday afternoons IPS tutoring: Wed and Friday Homework Help: All subjects- Every Thursday afternoon • Math: Wed. and Friday-basic math skill assistance. Mimics what is happening in the classroom • Algebra tutoring- Monday and Thursday • Reading: Monday and Thursday- work on context clues and beginning comprehension
Promotion Policy • To pass an annual course, students must earn at least two quality points per semester.

ELP • ELP Grade Enhancement is offered to students who have earned an “F” during the nine weeks in a core class • There is no ELP for High School courses
ELP • Students may earn a quality point for the course with successful completion of ELP • Please refer to handout if your student is taking ELP. There are strict rules for ELP.

Preparing for 8th Grade in 7th Grade • In 7th grade, show a strong work ethic and strive to make good grades • Take advanced level core courses • Learn how to manage time • Students taking high school courses in 8th grade must be recommended by 7th grade teacher. Do your best!
Preparing for High School in the 8th Grade • If in high school credit courses (Algebra, IPS, Computing for College Careers, Spanish), do your best. The mid semester and final semester grade in this course will stay on your transcript. • Take advantage of the IPS and Algebra tutoring that is offered by Mr. Clemens and Mrs. Accardi. It always helps to hear information a different way. • Learn how to manage life and school. Next year, 7 courses will go towards your GPA.
High School TranscriptsWhat do Colleges See!!?? • Your student will receive 6 grades plus final grades from any HS credit course. • For example: 1st semester 2nd semester 1st Qtr 2nd Qtr Midterm Final 3rd Qtr 4th Qtr Final Exam Final C B BBB C B B Only the final grades are on the transcript!
High School • A typical 9th grade high school schedule (honors or regular) • English 1 • Algebra 1 or Geometry • Biology • Government and Multicultural Studies (each worth ½ credit) • HOPE or ROTC • Elective (foreign language, band, chorus, major, etc.) • Reading (½ or 1 credit, depending on FCAT score)
Bright FuturesCommunity Service Hours • A Community Service Proposal must be submitted to the high school for approval • No student may receive credit for community service hours without written approval from the intended high school • The Community Service hours cannot begin until 8th grade is completed and proposal has been approved
