  4. What, Where, and When??? • Lincoln went to Ford’s TheaterApril 14, 1865 to see a play with friends.

  5. What else happened??? • John Wilkes Booth, snuck in behind Lincoln and shot him in the head.

  6. What happened then? • Booth jumped to the stage floor, broke his leg, and escaped with Herold…..

  7. Booth and Herold hid for 2 weeks before their capture….. What now????

  8. Then what???? * Troops set fire to the barn where they were hiding. Herold surrendered and Booth was shot in the barn before burning with it.

  9. Others…. • Other conspirators involved were hung afterwards for their crime…..

  10. What impact did Lincoln’s assassination have on Reconstruction? • Lincoln was trying to rebuild a nation following the Civil War because he was the President of the US. • The struggle to reunify a nation was largely hampered by the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. • The future of reconstruction rested with Andrew Johnson.
