Transference • Is documenting the conditions under which a study was conducted so it can be determined to what extent it can be generalized. • High levels of transferability help with generalization. To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research
How do you get transference? Let’s say the qualitative study was done in a school Was it a rural, suburban, urban or even international school? What was the socio-economic diversity of the school? What was the size of the school? What was the bilingual population? To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research
Transference • The more similar a school is to the school in the original study, the more likely the findings can be generalized (or transferred to that school). Scarsdale and Greenwich have VERY similar demographics…so are they generalizable. To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research
