Videotelephony : the ultimate dream, since the origins of telephony • 1876, telephony is invented • 1878, Thomas Edison is reported to be working on the videophone • 1882, Albert Robida, anticipation novelist describes the “telephonoscope” in his novel “Le vingtième siècle” • 1930’s first trials in the States and in Germany • 1980’s and 1990’s major technical trials are conducted by Telcos. Technology and terminals are neither affordable, nor mature. • Videoconference remains a BtoB niche market • 2004 France Telecom launches fixed/mobile and Internet videotelephony, fully interoperable. A worldwide “première”. • The collective fantasy becomes real, affordable, simple IMTC Forum – May 2005 – Eibsee, Germany

MaLigne visio ("My videophone") • System and description • Compliant to H.323 ITU-T Recommendation • Audio: G.711 (A and μ law) • Video : H.263 (CIF) • User signaling: "DTMF"  Migration to SIP under preparation for the future IMS • Access Network • ADSL : • One CBR bi-directional VC at 256 kbps (IP bit rate) • QoS guaranteed by ATM on the access network • Trunk network • IP network managed by the operator for QoS IMTC Forum – May 2005 – Eibsee, Germany
